RoboCup is an international academic initiative to promote AI and robotics research, by offering publicly appealing, but formidable challenges. It also provides an international education platform for robots. The name RoboCup is a contraction of the competition's full name, "Robot World Cup", which currently consists of three main major domains, "RoboCupSoccer", "RoboCupRescue", and "RoboCup@Home", as well as "RoboCupJunior".

The original goal of this initiative was stated as:

By mid-21st century, a team of fully autonomous humanoid robot soccer players shall win the soccer game, complying with the official rule of the FIFA against the winner of the most recent World Cup.

Chinese RoboCup Committee

Chinese RoboCup Committee was established in 2006, aiming to promote the development of the RoboCup in China.
